I suppose I should begin by clarifying what the “Imaginary Worlds Book Club” is all about. In essence, it’s a way for me to document some of the books I have read or will read, along with my thoughts on why I like them (or dislike them), and the emotions they evoke, all under a fancy name. And I say “some books” because I only intend to write here about those transporting us to alternative versions of our world. This means I will focus on speculative fiction, primarily in the dystopian, utopian, post-apocalyptic, science fiction, solar punk and alternate history genres.
So, why these genres? Well, for reasons I can’t explain, I have fun exploring any content that speculates how individuals and society behave in challenging circumstances, and literature is a never-ending, rich playground for that. These genres, in particular, tend to have characters navigating extraordinary situations that push them to question everything they know about themselves, follow unexpected paths, and act unpredictably.
What you will read here is, of course, just my personal opinion. I’m not a critic or a writer. I’m just a passionate fan (who runs the risk of becoming a geek, I admit). I’ll try to be honest, which only means that I will be consciously subjective. So, if you decide to read a book that I found fantastic and end up dying of boredom, don’t blame me… This said, any comments, suggestions or corrections are welcome. If you have a different opinion, I’ll be happy to read it.
So, without further ado, here is “Imaginary Worlds Book Club”. [Aplauses]

PS: Full disclosure – the name of this website is inspired by a fantastic podcast called “Imaginary Worlds”. If you don’t know about it, definitely check it out. Every other week, the host, Eric Molinsky, chats with comic book artists, game designers, novelists, screenwriters and filmmakers about how they create their worlds and why we suspend our disbelief.
